Students are given new spelling words every Monday. These words are written in the planner at the beginning of the week. Listed below is our weekly spelling routine. The students will have a spelling test every Friday. Please make sure your child is practicing the spelling words at home.

Students will sort their spelling words based on a spelling pattern or rule taught by the teacher. This is called a Closed Sort. They should be on the look out for words that don't follow the spelling rule.

Fast Fingers- Sort your words as fast as you can.
Memory- Combine your words with a partners. Turn all the words over. Pick two words. If they match, pick them up. If they do not match, turn them back over. The player with the most matches wins.

No Peeking - Partner one calls out a spelling word. Partner two listens to the word and without peeking, points to the heading that matches the spelling pattern. If they get it correct, partner one place the word under the heading. If they get it incorrect, partner one keeps the word. Record the points or number of words correct. Switch places. Whoever has the most points wins.
